澳門大學師生和東北大學學生共同發表的論文,為政策制定者落實科學的食物與健康政策、食品和媒體行業承擔社會責任等提供重要的參考價值,因而在第35屆數據工程國際會議(ICDE)旗下數據工程與智慧食物和食譜工作坊 (DECOR)中獲最佳論文獎。

ICDE會議是電氣電子工程師學會(IEEE)世界頂尖會議,是計算機數據科學領域最重要的國際會議之一。澳大社會科學學院傳播系助理教授張文瑜、工商管理學院教授劉丁己、澳大傳播系碩士研究生胡潔儀和東北大學生物醫學工程系碩士研究生劉藝超在會上共同發表該論文《資料採礦方法探討與中國飲食相關之心血管與代謝疾病研究》。他們以數據挖掘的方法,檢視中國飲食與心臟代謝疾病報導的關聯,文中創新性地將社會科學領域的媒體研究方法與計算機科學領域結合,藉助數據挖掘技術,高效地對海量的新聞報導中食物與疾病數據進行分類、語義挖掘及挑選。這種方法除了解決傳統媒體研究依賴大量人工標註等問題外,還有從健康傳播的角度為食物數據研究提供了新的方向。

研究結果顯示,新聞報業頻繁地強調日常飲食、高脂西式快餐、含糖飲料等食物,與健康問題的關聯埋下隱憂。此外,新聞報業的食物報導與《中國居民膳食指南》的飲食建議沒有連接性。該論文為食物與健康的研究提供新的思考角度,其研究結論對政策制定者落實科學的食物與健康政策,以及食品和媒體行業承擔社會責任,以促進民眾健康飲食方面提供重要的參考價值。

澳大傳播系碩士研究生胡潔儀表示,過去數月很認真準備口語報告與答辯,過程相當緊張,但能與來自世界各地研究食物科學的學者同台競技與交流,奪得DECOR2019最佳論文大獎,辛苦也值得。東北大學生物醫學工程系碩士研究生劉藝超表示,ICDE是計算機科學領域的頂尖會議,能夠獲得最佳論文獎的殊榮,備受大會的肯定,是團隊共同努力的成果,與有榮焉。

張文瑜是澳大傳播系助理教授,長期專注廣告與消費、媒體應用、健康傳播等領域的研究。研究成果發表包括期刊、書籍與會議論文超過60篇。在教學與研究工作之外,亦十分注重年輕學子的培養,為學生提供許多的發展空間和平台。

劉丁己是澳大持續進修中心主任和工商管理學院教授,多次獲得工商管理學院最佳教學獎、最佳研究獎和最佳服務獎。至今於頂級學術期刊與會議發表論文超過150篇,報章評論與科普文章超過400篇。

A paper on food and health research, jointly published by faculty members and students form UM and a student from Northeastern University in China, recently received the Best Paper Award in the Data Engineering Meets Intelligent Food and Cooking Recipe (DECOR) workshop, which was part of the 35th International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The paper was co-written by Assistant Professor Angela Chang and master’s student Hu Jieyi from the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, UM; Prof Matthew Liu Tingchi from the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), UM; and Liu Yichao, a master’s student from Northeastern University in China. Titled ‘Data Mining Approach to Chinese Food Analysis for Diet-Related Cardiometabolic Diseases’, the paper explores the emerging computer-aided methodology in order to understand how news media discuss food, diet, and related cardiometabolic diseases. Considering the increasing number of people suffering from diet-related cardiometabolic diseases, the paper brings into question the media’s efforts in reporting food- and health-related topics and shows how the frequent coverage of food and drinks has gradually led to health problems among the general public. The paper also provides new insights for food and health research, policy making, and the social responsibility of food and media companies.

Hu expressed her enthusiasm in preparing the manuscript and how wonderful the learning experience was in the DECOR workshop. ‘The process was quite tense, but it was a very worthy experience because I could discuss food science issues with researchers from all over the world,’ says Hu.

As a corresponding author of the paper, Dr Chang has been focusing on advertising and consumption, media applications, and health communication in her research studies. She has published more than 60 papers in academic journals, books, and conferences.

Prof Liu is currently the director of the Centre for Continuing Education and a professor in the FBA. He has received several awards for teaching, research, and services from the faculty. So far, he has published more than 150 papers in top academic journals and conferences, as well as more than 400 newspaper articles and popular science articles.
