Digital Investigation Fundamentals by AFP Fact Check
Abstract:
What are some common types of mis- and disinformation circulating in Asia? What key skills do fact-checkers, journalists and researchers need to combat misinformation and access high-quality information on the internet? In this mini-workshop, I will introduce how we operate at the world’s largest fact-checking agency, the misinformation trends we’ve observed in Asia, especially in Greater China, and the fundamental skills for conducting digital investigation in a fast-changing information ecosystem. Participants will be given hands-on exercises and useful resources for sharpen their digital reporting skills.
Bio:
Sophia Xu is the Asia-Pacific Regional Digital Training Manager at AFP Fact Check. She leads AFP’s digital journalism training programme in Asia-Pacific. She joined AFP in 2020 as a regional digital verification editor. She has been a journalist working in digital newsgathering, UGC verification, fact-checking and journalism training since 2012 in various newsrooms globally. She has trained hundreds of journalists and students in digital journalism at media conferences, press clubs and universities across Asia.
