Prof. Tan See Kam was recently elected to be Chairman of the Asian Cinema Studies Society (ACSS). His election took place at the 10th ACSS international conference held at Hong Kong University, in March 2012. He is also the new Editor of the Asian Cinema journal, published by Intellect Press, an internationally renowned journal based in the United Kingdom. ACSS was inaugurated in the United States in 1984, and Asian Cinema has been this society’s flagship publication. Published biannually and totaling 23 volumes and several numbers todate, this peer reviewed journal features an international advisory board comprising distinguished scholars in the field.
Both ACSS and Asian Cinema have long catered to an international audience, collectively serving as a critical platform for media and communication scholars, researchers, practitioners, and students of Asian cinema, around the world. Over the years, ACSS has held a total of five international conferences in the United States, and also one each in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, the People’s Republic of China, and South Korea, with world-class universities such as the University of Ohio (1984, 1994), University of Trent (1997), University of Washington (2002), and Peking University (2005) playing hosts. All have witnessed enthusiastic participation, contributing to the establishment of global communities of scholarship in the interdisciplinary area of film, media and communication.
