Abstract:

The talk traces the genealogy and characteristics of four prominent theoretical models in Chinese film studies: Chinese national cinema, transnational Chinese cinema, Chinese-language cinema, Sinophone cinema.
The paper discusses the strengths as well as possible limitations of each model in dealing with the diverse film traditions of the Chinese-speaking world.
