The talk will focus on three aspects of content analysis in communication research: 1) manifest vs. latent content and their theoretical and social implications; 2) motivations and resources in regard to content analysis; and 3) a walkthrough of the coding procedure. The thorny issues of reliability and validity in content analysis will be discussed and examples will be profusely cited to illustrate conceptual points.
